National Automuseum – The Loh Collection, Dietzhölztal, Germany

With the temporary exhibition “Ferrari – Masterpieces for Road and Track”, the Nationales Automuseum and the Loh Collection present a world-wide unique collection of high-class Ferrari vehicles. The exhibition offers a representative sample of eight decades of Ferrari’s history, both in terms of racing and Grand Touring. The Formula 1 cars on display tell the most important chapters in Ferrari’s history at the pinnacle of motorsport, from the cars of Lorenzo Bandini, Jacky Ickx and Niki Lauda to Kimi Räikkönen’s F1-2007, Maranello’s last world champion car to date.
The Michael Schumacher era is represented by the car of the 2000 World Championship title and the 2004 F2004 with which Schumacher and Ferrari won their fifth consecutive drivers’ title. With no less than eight victories in a season, the vehicle presented here is the most successful Ferrari race car of all time. Ferrari has also been at the top in the sport prototype categorie, starting with the first Barchetta Mille Miglia and the Ferrari 212 of the 1951 Carrera Panamericana. Then there are the many models of the 1960s, from the 246 SP to the 275-330 P and the Dino 206, or the 365 GTB “Daytona”, those cars that won major events such as the Mille Miglia, the 1,000 km at the Nürburgring, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
For Grand Touring, the focus is on special models designed for personalities, royal families, captains of industry, movie stars or sportsmen. For example, the 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Speciale of Princess Réthy, wife of King Leopold III of the Belgians, and the 250 MM prepared especially for Baron Thyssen’s wife. The interior of this car was fitted out at Hermès in Paris and it had a roof rack for winter sports trips! Later, model Nina Dyer’s favorite vehicle ended up in the hands of Prince Sadruddin, the Aga Khan. Also worth mentioning is the black 250 GT SWB Competizione of Wolfgang Seidel, teammate of the famous Wolfgang von Trips on several occasions, winner of many races in the hands of actor and amateur racing driver Gunther Philipp.
More recent, we find the hypercars quintet with the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and La Ferrari, rarely brought together in one place. In addition to a detailed presentation of the exhibition vehicles, a book (in German only) written by the specialist journalist Jörg Walz has been published in cooperation with the well-known publishing house “Motorbuch-Verlag”. This book traces the career of Enzo Ferrari and gives an in-depth insight into the company and its cars. Finally, the shop of the National Automobile Museum offers scale models of vehicles and automobilia specially created for the Ferrari exhibition.
