This fall, Autoworld is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an extensive program, including an exhibition featuring the best of the best from more than 100 temporary exhibitions. The celebration will also include a big anniversary party on Sunday, October 4, and other events to be announced later in September. The exhibition will feature cars and motorcycles that have been displayed in recent years in one of Autoworld’s many exhibitions and that each have a special connection to the museum’s history.

More than a traditional retrospective, it will be an eclectic and surprising look back at 40 years of Autoworld. Visitors will discover vehicles ranging from pre-war models to modern supercars, including the Bugatti Type 35, the Lamborghini Miura, the rare Muntz Jet, James Bond’s one-of-a-kind Toyota 2000GT Targa, and the “flying” Citroën DS featured in the DS anniversary exhibition.

One of the stars will be the Porsche 918. In fact, the Porsche 918 will be on display at the request of the public. In July, Autoworld asked visitors which cars they would like to see again at the museum. The responses were enthusiastic and varied, and one thing became very clear once again: supercars remain extremely popular, and among them, the Porsche 918 stood out distinctly. For each vehicle, a connection will be made to the exhibition in which it was previously featured.

The exhibition will also feature a summary wall listing all the exhibitions organized by Autoworld over the years. A short video will summarize 40 years of Autoworld through images, moments, and memories from the museum’s history. On Sunday, October 4, Autoworld will host a big birthday celebration for all car enthusiasts, a festive day for everyone!
In the morning, a special Cars & Coffee Birthday Edition will take place, featuring a festive gathering of classic cars, modern classics, and remarkable vehicles, including a few supercars that will also be on display at the museum that day. A few impressive vehicles will be on display all day in the center of the museum. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours, children’s activities, a DJ, and more. As a reminder, Autoworld was founded in September 1986 to house part of Ghislain Mahy’s impressive collection.
Forty years later, the museum has become a vibrant hub for automotive history, heritage, design, innovation, and the visitor experience. Under the slogan “More than a museum,” Autoworld offers a fresh lineup of programming, including temporary exhibitions, Cars & Coffee gatherings, and family activities… Since its opening in 1986, Autoworld has welcomed more than 4.5 million visitors and currently attracts nearly 250,000 visitors per year. While the permanent collection features 220 cars and 60 motorcycles, no fewer than 2,290 cars and motorcycles have been showcased in exhibitions over the years.

But Autoworld isn’t content to look only to its past; it is actively working toward its future. Behind the scenes, the museum is preparing for a major renovation, featuring architectural enhancements, a completely new exhibition design, and updated infrastructure, notably thanks to the support of the “Regie des Batiments”, the building’s owner, which plans to carry out a major renovation of the museum’s exterior walls and windows in 2027.
