Citroen and DS Conservatory, Aulnay sous Bois, France
Closing on June 30, 2024
Sad news, the Citroën and DS Conservatory will close its doors on June 30, 2024, the collection will be moved to be sheltered, pending a new exhibition space. The Conservatory is located in Aulnay sous Bois, on the site of a former Citroën factory. But the place was under a precarious lease, and the entire site will be taken over, hence the end of the lease and the need to move.
To date, there is little information on what will happen next, except that there is talk of opening a museum capable of exhibiting the collection (or at least part of it) for 2027 or 2028. In the meantime, it is not impossible that the collection once installed in its new location may be open to the public from time to time. To be continued… But in any case, if you get the chance, there’s still 1 month left to discover this vast collection of nearly 300 cars, old, new, racing and show cars!
However, it is sad to note the lack of enthusiasm shown by French manufacturers for their history and heritage, especially in comparison with German or Italian manufacturers. Only Peugeot, through the Aventure Peugeot association, has an exhibition space worthy of the name. At a time when Chinese manufacturers represent a real threat, recalling one’s heritage is certainly one of the strengths of European brands, especially for Citroën, which enjoys a good brand image all over the world and is the most collected brand! Finally, if you want to admire a collection entirely dedicated to Citroën (albeit post-war), there’s the CitroMuseum in Castellane!
