Located near Fernando Alonso’s hometown of Oviedo, the Fernando Alonso Museum and Circuit presents the public and motor sport enthusiasts with the great Spanish champion’s extensive collection. His long, eclectic career (32 F1 victories, 2-time F1 World Champion, Endurance World Champion and two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans…) and ongoing achievements enable offering a wide range of racing cars from the late 1990s to the present day.

Cars at Fernando Alonso Museum

The Fernando Alonso Museum essentially exhibits the vehicles with which Fernando Alonso raced in various disciplines, from karting to F1, through promotional formulas, Indianapolis 500, endurance racing and rally-raid, in all some thirty karts and cars. Fernando started out in karting like many other pilots, and several machines retrace his racing beginnings, including the very first kart built by his father, with which he took part in his first races as part of the regional karting championship.

After karting, Alonso moved on to single-seater racing in the promotional formulas Formula Nissan and F3000 (the antechamber to F1 in the 2000s). Since Alonso made his F1 debut at the age of 19, and is still racing in the sport’s premier discipline, F1 cars are logically in the majority, with cars from the various teams he has raced for: Minardi, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin… and Fernando Alonso has managed to bring together almost all the Formula 1 he has driven.

Even if you can’t see it, most F1 cars are complete, engine and gearbox included, and there are certainly few places in the world where you can get such a close-up view of twenty modern F1 cars. You can compare them and see how cockpits and steering wheels, for example, have evolved over the years. The most spectacular is undoubtedly the aerodynamics. Multi-blade fins, winglets, badge boards, flat bottoms, diffusers – you can see the creativity and imagination of F1 designers and the complexity of these machines.

Of course, the 2 Renault R25s (2005) and R26s (2006) that brought him his 2 F1 World Championship titles are on stage, as well as the Toyota TS-050 with which he twice won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As Fernando Alonso also raced in the USA, we find the Cadillac of the 2019 Daytona 24 Hours victory and an Indycar of the Indianapolis 500 Miles. In a completely different car category, the Toyota Hilux pickup recalls victory at the 2020 Dakar Rally.

Besides cars

To decorate the museum, all that was needed was to display the driving accessories used by Fernando Alonso throughout his long career: helmets, overalls, gloves, shoes… Several showcases display the many trophies he has collected since his early days. Another showcase also displays the decorations received by the driver, such as a plaque in the street of Oviedo bearing his name, or the “Prince of Asturias Prize”, Spain’s most prestigious award, received in 2005 in the “Sports” category after his 1st F1 world title. Several films and photos retrace the career of Fernando Alonso, whose voice accompanies visitors on an audio guide.

From the shop, fans can leave the museum with one or more Alonso souvenirs: accessories, miniatures, caps, glasses, clothes… the store also sells all kinds of karting parts and accessories.

The adjacent karting circuit, designed by Alonso himself, features some of his favorite F1 curves. It serves as a training ground for Alonso’s own karting team but is also homologated for racing at the highest level, and hosts several national and international competitions each year.

A café located between the museum and the adjacent Golf de la Morgal offers drinks and snacks. A new building, due for completion before the end of 2024, will greatly increase the exhibition area to accommodate new cars, as well as a café and restaurant. The large free parking lot features charging points for electric cars.
