Masters of Design – Icons of Style

SQUADRA Abarth & Rally Collection, Lier, Belgium

Until January 10, 2027

With its exhibition “Masters of Design – Icons of Style,” the Squadra Abarth & Rally Collection museum shines a spotlight on the visionary designers behind the lines of these exceptional automobiles. Visitors will discover no fewer than 35 rare vehicles and the stories of their designers, surrounded by 25 iconic pieces of furniture and interior decor from the golden age of design, spanning the 1960s to the 1980s.

During this period, Italy established itself as the international epicenter of style and innovation. Famous automotive designers such as Marcello Gandini, Leonardo Fioravanti, and Giorgetto Giugiaro, working for renowned coachbuilders like Bertone, Pininfarina, Zagato, Ghia, and Italdesign, shaped the Italian way of life.

Among the icons on display, visitors can rediscover the works of Battista Farina (Ferrari 275 GTS), Leonardo Fioravanti (Dino 208, Ferrari Daytona and 308 GTB), Giovanni Michelotti (Maserati 3500 GT Spyder and Sebring), Pietro Frua (Maserati Mistral), Giorgietto Giugiaro (Maserati Ghibli and Bora, De Tomaso Mangusta, Bizzarrini 5300 GT), Marcello Gandini (Lamborghini Miura and Espada, Alfa Romeo Montreal), Tom Djaarda (Ferrari 330 GT, De Tomaso Pantera), or Ercole Spada (Lancia Fulvia Zagato).

A few two-wheelers, such as the Aprilia Moto 6.5 (Philippe Starck) and the Lambretta DL 200 (Marcello Gandini), round out the vehicle exhibition. Large panels placed near their creations introduce these renowned designers and highlight their contributions to automotive design during this particularly prolific period.

To further the dialogue between automotive, product, and furniture design, the museum has partnered with Yves Chung of Pellegrini Design, who is presenting 25 rare design pieces from the same period. Among them are masterpieces of ergonomics, such as the iconic Elda armchair and the revolutionary Arco floor lamp by the Castiglioni brothers, designed to flexibly illuminate a table from different points within a space.
