The Mahymobiles Auto Museum had an eventful history, before moving to its current premises. A former textile company has been redeveloped to make it a place suitable for the museum and attractive to the public. It exhibits part of the huge collection (more than 1000 vehicles) gathered by the Mahy family since the 40s. In total, on 20.000m² of building, 6 rooms are open to the public for an area of about 6000m².
Cars at Mahymobiles
Ghislain Mahy began his collection in 1944 with a modest Ford T, without knowing at that time the scale it would grow over the decades. Of the thousand vehicles in the collection (some of which are awaiting restoration), more than 300 are on permanent display. A regular rotation is made to renew the interest of visitors. From 1895 (a Rochet Schneider) to 2000, it is therefore more than a century of automotive history that we discover at Mahymobiles. The collection is eclectic, whether in terms of brands, countries represented (Europe, USA, Japan …) or car style.
We find in Mahymobiles these popular cars that have crisscrossed our roads: Ford T of course, Citroën Rosalie, Traction or GS, Honda N600, Opel Kadett, Panhard Dyna, Renault Dauphine or R16, Simca 1000 … The Mahy collection also exhibits more prestigious or rare sports cars: Chevrolet Corvette, Citroën DS cabriolet, De Tomaso Deauville, Honda NSX, Jaguar Type E, Maserati A6G, Rolls Royce, Talbot Lago T26… We also discover many disappeared brands (including Belgian brands), the visitor will not be disappointed!
Besides cars
Many motorcycles, cycles (Grand Bi and Draisienne), utility vehicles and even some horse-drawn carriages complete the history of locomotion presented at Mahymobiles. The museum has a restoration workshop that allows the maintenance of the vehicles in the collection, but also a complete restoration if necessary.
