Audrain Automobile Museum, Newport (RI), USA
Until March 9, 2025
The Audrain Automobile Museum celebrates the Magic of Monaco, especially in the field of automobiles. The Principality of Monaco is a jewel on the Mediterranean coast, renowned for its setting and the quality of the many special events held there every year. The exhibition presents several facets that go a long way towards explaining the magic of Monaco.
On the motoring front, the Monte Carlo Rally has been running for over a century, while the Monaco Grand Prix was first held on the city’s streets in 1929. Other events that have made the principality famous include the Monte-Carlo automobile Concours d’Elegance, international motorboat races and the Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament. The Magic of Monaco exhibition will feature Grand Prix cars such as 1929 Bugatti Type 37A, 1935 Alfa Romeo 8C-35, 1956 Maserati 250F, Prost’s McLaren MP4/4 from 1988, 1997 Ferrari F310B, as well as other single-seaters: 1958 Porsche F2, F3 and Formula Junior.
There will also be rally cars such as the Alpine Renault A110 and Lancia Delta S4, as well as the Lancia Aurelia B20 and Mercedes 300 SL, among others. These two cars, both sporty and refined, symbolize elegance, as does the 1936 Bugatti Type 57 “Mont Ventoux”.
The gallery walls will be covered with a never-before-seen selection from the Murray Smith collection of splendid vintage racing posters, medals, race programs and publicity material that now represent the history of these iconic events over the last almost 100 years.
