From Sketch to Street

British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Angleterre

Until April 2025

The automotive world is full of excellent designs, from the elegant Jaguar E-type to the unshakeable Land Rover. It’s amazing how good design can really capture the imagination. The British Motor Museum’s new exhibition explores the evolution and stages of automotive design. From sketch to Street is a fascinating journey through five key themes in the world of automotive design: interior design, exterior design, functional design, materials and trim.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to observe the evolution of automotive design, its process and the results it produces, using both cars and objects from the collection and many on loan to the museum for the exhibition. Highlights include the designers’ early sketches, objects on loan from luxury car brands and even a clay model of a long-awaited modern model!

The Sketch to Street exhibition also features a series of interactive activities, inviting visitors to contribute their own ideas to design problems or reflect on what would be important to them when designing a car. As part of the Sketch to Stret exhibition, the British Motor Museum organizes special daily events during the summer, such as fun and informative tours for the whole family to explore the different features of car design, or the “Car Details” garage to get to grips with designing your own car!

Summer events

At the British Motor Museum, summer is also the occasion for special one-day events, such as 125 years of Fiat with the British Fiat Club (August 3), a Jaguar meeting (August 15), a big Vauxhall reunion with the Vaux All day on August 18, or a big Aston Martin celebration on August 31. On this last day of August, the DB7 will be in the spotlight for its 30th anniversary, with the presentation of a rare DB7 Zagato (99 units produced) and a DB7 i6 GT, a prototype designed for competition but eventually abandoned.
