It is in the framework of the Château de Savigny les Beaune, that there is an Abarth museum that presents the collection gathered by Michel Pont (deceased in 2021), former racing driver (on circuit and hill climbs). After the purchase of an Abarth 1000SP at the end of the 60s, Michel Pont will remain faithful to the brand to the Scorpion in racing, and undertakes to gather a collection exclusively Abarth. It is now Abarth’s largest collection in France. The estate, which is also a winery (web site in French: https://www.chateau-savigny.com/caves-de-lorangerie/), offers several other museums and exhibitions (see below).
The cars of the Museum of Savigny Les Beaune
About thirty cars, all out of the workshops of the “sorcerer” Carlo Abarth, mainly sports and racing cars and therefore rare or even unique. Besides the1st 1000SP, the 2000 OT long tail and its last racing car, a 3L V8 from 1971 are the pearls of the museum. You can also discover different types of cars developed by Abarth, with the Fiat 600 and 600 supercharged, trays and sport-prototypes, F2 and Formula Italia single-seaters, some Abarth-Simca and other Zagato coupe. The museum is decorated with many objects related to the history of the automobile and the history of Abarth, as well as with the many cups won by Michel Pont during his racing years.
Besides cars
In total, there are 9 museums that you can visit at the Château de Savigny les Beaune, presenting motorcycles (more than a hundred), tractors, fire trucks, miniatures and models in large numbers, and in the park of the castle a hundred fighter planes of all origins: French with several Mirage, Mystère, Jaguar, American (F8, F84, F100, F104), Russian MiGs… And of course the magnificent cellars of the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries and the Cuveries, the opportunity to taste the wines of the castle, and to leave with a few bottles. Enough to ensure an eclectic visit and meet all tastes!
