Bugatti – a Dynasty of Creators

Uzes (near Nimes), France

Until October 13, 2024

Bugatti – a Dynasty of Creators at the Old Bishop’s House in Uzes (near Nimes, France) presents for the 1st time in one place the creations of 3 famous members of the Bugatti family: Carlo Bugatti, the father (1856 – 1940), a talented cabinetmaker and decorator, Rembrandt Bugatti (1884 – 1916), the youngest son, a sculptor renowned for bringing an impressionist and cubist vision to the world of sculpture, and Ettore Bugatti (1881 – 1947), the eldest son, creator of iconic automobiles considered true works of art.

This tribute exhibition is the result of a meeting between Marc Stammegna, Adolphe Monticelli’s expert, art dealer and enlightened connoisseur of Rembrandt Bugatti’s bronzes, and François Melcion, former director of Retromobile in Paris (one of the most important classic and collection cars show), who share a passion for the Bugatti family.

Visitors, in a place itself steeped in history, will discover a wide selection of works by Rembrandt Bugatti, remarkable furniture and exceptional goldsmith’s and silversmith’s pieces by Carlo Bugatti, and a dozen emblematic cars by Ettore Bugatti, hence this article in our blog.

Among the cars on display are a Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix, the most successful racing car in motorsport history, the Bugatti 43 owned by King Leopold III of Belgium, a Bugatti Brescia Type 23 and a Type 40.

In parallel, the exhibition “Monticelli, precursor of Impressionism” is organized on the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Adolphe Monticelli (1824-2024), of whom Marc Stammegna is a certified expert́. This exhibition features an important selection of works by the artist. This master of 19th-century painting, which fuses romanticism and modernity is considered a precursor of Impressionism.
