The PS.SPEICHER museum in Einbeck (Lower Saxony) was created from the collection assembled by Karl-Heinz Rehkopf, an entrepreneur and avid car enthusiast. He established the PS.SPEICHER foundation in 2009 and bequeathed his collection to it. The foundation purchased and restored the former Einbeck granary, a historic building that now forms the heart of the museum, which opened to the public in 2014. One of the unique features of the PS.SPEICHER museum is that it is spread across several locations in the city, allowing visitors to explore Einbeck as they travel from one site to another. In total, the exhibition and event spaces cover more than 25,000 square meters.

Cars

On an exhibition area of over 6,500 square meters, visitors to the PS.SPEICHER museum can discover the history and future of motorized mobility across six floors and eight rooms. The exhibitions include historic bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, as well as displays that immerse visitors in the corresponding era. The permanent exhibition features more than 2,500 vehicles and numerous other collectibles.

The automobiles are presented on five floors in chronological order, then by brand. The tour begins on the 6th floor with vehicles from before 1914 and then moves on to the most recent models (youngtimers, after 1990) on the 1st floor. The collection is particularly rich in post-war German cars, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Porsche and Volkswagen, but also includes defunct brands such as Adler, Borgward, and Glas.

For many years, the PS.SPEICHER museum housed private collectors’ cars in part of the motorcycle building. Since 2023, this collection has been open to the public and constitutes the “treasure chamber,” with a splendid collection of prestigious German brands such as Horch, Maybach, and Mercedes-Benz, as well as many unique models.

Another unique feature of the PS.SPEICHER museum is its collection of historic microcars, the largest in the world. This section traces the transition from motorcycles to mass-produced three- and four-wheeled vehicles, with an overview of the development of this category of vehicles from different manufacturers and different eras. This building also displays a collection of electric vehicles dating back more than 100 years, illustrating the long history and evolution of the concept of electric mobility.

Besides cars

In addition to automobiles, PS.SPEICHER presents a wide selection of motorcycles, commercial vehicles, and agricultural machinery, offering an insight into the impressive diversity of global mobility history. Visitors can discover the world’s largest collection of German production motorcycles and the largest collection of historic commercial vehicles.

The big news for 2025 is the opening of the miniature section. Ten themed rooms display more than 8,000 scale models with a 5-meter-high collection tower and detailed dioramas. Interactive stations, photos, contextual displays, films, and numerous objects offer visitors an immersive experience.

Numerous fun activities are available, such as a full-motion simulator (additional charge) and a historical simulator. Of course, there is also a shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs or gifts, including books, miniatures, textiles, and posters. PS.SPEICHER also has a bar, a brasserie, and a hotel. The integrated event center, PS.Halle, is a modern, multifunctional space that hosts various events, including concerts, conferences, club meetings, trade shows, and outdoor events. There is ample parking for visitors.
