Hommage MG

L’affiche officielle de Rétromobile 2024 vient d’être dévoilée, avec une célèbre voiture britannique, la MG EX 181. 2 éléments caractérisent la MG EX 181, un design futuriste rappelant un avion à réaction ou un vaisseau spatial, en rupture totale avec son époque et des records de légende établis sur le lac salé de Bonneville dans l’Utah (USA). En 1957, Stirling Moss atteint la vitesse folle pour l’époque de 245,64 mph (environ 395,31 km / h). La MG EX 181 était équipée d’un moteur turbocompressé MGA Twin Cam de 1500 cc développant 290 ch à 7300 tr/min. Deux ans plus tard, en 1959, avec Phil Hill et un moteur de 300 ch, la voiture franchit la barrière symbolique des 250 mph en portant le record à 254,91 mph (410,5 km / h). Plus de six décennies plus tard, la MG EX 181 profite d’une retraite bien méritée au British Motor Museum.

MG Tribute

The official poster of Rétromobile 2024 has just been unveiled, with a famous British car, the MG EX  181. 2 elements characterize the MG EX 181, a futuristic design reminiscent of a jet plane or spacecraft, in total break with its time and legendary records  set on the salt lake of Bonneville in Utah (USA). In 1957, Stirling Moss reached the crazy speed for the time of 245.64 mph (about 395.31 km/h). The MG EX 181 was equipped with a 1500 cc MGA Twin Cam turbocharged engine producing 290 hp at 7300 rpm.  2 years later, in 1959, with Phil Hill and a 300 hp engine, the car broke the symbolic barrier of 250 mph by bringing the record to 254.91 mph (410.5 km/h). More than six decades later, the MG EX 181 enjoys a well-deserved retirement at the British Motor Museum.

Les 100 ans de l’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry

Rétromobile 2024 célébrera le centenaire de l’Autodrome UTAC Linas-Montlhéry, avec une exposition inédite dédiée aux cent ans de ce temple de la passion automobile. L’anneau de vitesse est construit en seulement 6 mois en 1924 à quelques kilomètres de Paris. il est si pentu par endroit qu’il est impossible pour un humain de s’y tenir debout. Très vite, l’anneau est complété par un circuit routier de 12 kilomètres traversant la forêt avoisinante.Pour l’exposition, une vingtaine de véhicules mythiques ayant marqué l’histoire seront présentés Bugatti Type 36/35A Grand-Prix 1925, AMILCAR MCO Grand-Prix 1928, Jonghi Record 350 1934, Peugeot 404 diesel de record, McLaren F1 GTR, Matra MS650… Si l’autodrome n’accueille plus de compétitions depuis 2004, la retraite ne semble pour autant pas se profiler à l’horizon. Le lieu accueille chaque année de nombreux constructeurs venu tester leurs véhicules, et de nombreuses manifestations dédiées aux véhicules de collections y sont organisées.

100 years of Linas-Montlhéry racetrack

Rétromobile 2024 will celebrate the 100 years of the Autodrome UTAC Linas-Montlhéry, with a new exhibition dedicated to the centenary of this temple of automotive passion. The speed ring was built in just 6 months in 1924 a few kilometers from Paris. It is so steep in places that it is impossible for a human to stand on it. Very quickly, the ring is completed by a 12-kilometre road circuit through the surrounding forest. For the exhibition, some twenty mythical vehicles that have marked history will be presented: Bugatti Type 36/35A Grand-Prix 1925, AMILCAR MCO Grand-Prix 1928, Jonghi Record 350 1934, Peugeot 404 diesel record, McLaren F1 GTR, Matra MS650… Although the autodrome has not hosted competitions since 2004, retirement does not seem to be on the horizon. Every year, the venue welcomes many manufacturers who come to test their vehicles, and many events dedicated to classic vehicles are organized there.

Le Rallye Dakar s’invite à Rétromobile

En 2024, Rétromobile rend hommage au Rallye Dakar avec une exposition inédite organisée avec le soutien d’ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation – organisateur du Rallye Dakar). Quelques semaines seulement après le lancement de la 46ème édition du Rallye Dakar, le salon Rétromobile accueillera une exposition retraçant le récit de cette course hors du commun. Au programme : véhicules mythiques, pilotes emblématiques et anecdotes inédites : Yamaha XT500 de Cyril Neveu, Renault 4L des frères Marreau, Peugeot 405 Grand-Raid, Porsche 959 ou encore le Nissan X-Trail conduit par Johnny Hallyday et René Metge lors de l’édition 2002… Et de grands noms du rallye Dakar, comme Cyril Neveu, Claude Marreau et André Dessoude, seront présents pour répondre aux questions du public.

The Dakar Rally comes to Rétromobile

In 2024, Rétromobile pays tribute to the Dakar Rally with a new exhibition organised with the support of ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation – organiser of the Dakar Rally). Just a few weeks after the launch of the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally, the Rétromobile show will host an exhibition retracing the story of this extraordinary race. On the show: mythical vehicles, emblematic drivers and unpublished anecdotes: Cyril Neveu’s Yamaha XT500, Marreau brothers’ Renault 4L, Peugeot 405 Grand-Raid, Porsche 959 and Nissan X-Trail driven by Johnny Hallyday and René Metge during the 2002 edition… And big names in the Dakar Rally, such as Cyril Neveu, Claude Marreau and André Dessoude, will be present to answer questions from the public.

Espace Moto

De tous temps, le salon Rétromobile a accueilli des constructeurs moto, des marchands spécialisés dans les motos de collection, des ventes aux enchères ou encore des expositions regroupant quelques-unes des plus belles machines du 20ème siècle. Mais pour la prochaine édition en 2024, un grand espace de 2 000 m² au cœur du salon dans le hall 2.2 sera exclusivement consacrés aux deux roues. Plusieurs constructeurs de renom comme BMW Motorrad, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle ou encore Yamaha seront présents.

Cet espace accueillera également une exposition inédite dédiée à l’histoire d’une lignée légendaire : la famille Monneret, du grand-père Georges, pilote émérite des années 1930 à 1950. Les fils prennent le relai, enchainant victoires et records, jusqu’au petit fils Philippe (aujourd’hui âgé de 65 ans) qui lui aussi remportera de nombreuses courses notamment en endurance, battra des records et établira une célèbre moto-école. Une vingtaine de deux-roues emblématiques ayant accompagnés les 3 générations de la saga Monneret seront présentés dans l’exposition.

Motorbikes area

Since the beginning, Rétromobile has hosted motorcycle manufacturers, dealers specialising in classic motorcycles, auctions and exhibitions bringing together some of the most beautiful machines of the 20th century. But for the next edition in 2024, a large 2,000 m² space at the center of the show in hall 2.2 will be exclusively dedicated to two-wheelers. Several renowned manufacturers such as BMW Motorrad, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle and Yamaha will be present. This space will also host a special exhibition dedicated to the history of a legendary lineage: the Monneret family, from grandfather Georges, an accomplished pilot from the 1930s to the 1950s. The sons took over, winning a series of victories and records, until the grandson Philippe (now 65 years old) who also won many races, especially in endurance racing, broke records and established a famous motorcycle school. About twenty emblematic two-wheelers that have accompanied the 3 generations of the Monneret saga will be presented in the exhibition.

Les ventes aux enchères

Comme chaque année, Rétromobile sera l’occasion d’importantes ventes aux enchères. Toutefois, chaque maison aura sa stratégie. Artcurial organise sa vente sur le salon, et exposera comme chaque année les voitures proposées sous le marteau. 2 ventes en fait, une première le vendredi 2 février dédiée aux automobiles ayant marqué l’histoire du 20ème siècle, la seconde le samedi 3 présentant nombre d’objets d’époques liés à l’univers de l’automobile. Parmi les joyaux présentés lors de ces ventes exceptionnelles, quelques modèles déjà connus : Delaunay Belleville Type HB6 de 1913, BMW M1 de 1979, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing de 1955 ou encore la sublime Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 TT12 de 1975 pilotée par Derek Bell et Jochen Mass… De son côté, Osenat proposera une collection de 9 voitures françaises prestigieuses – cinq Delahaye, trois Talbot-Lago et une Delage – un véritable voyage dans l’âge d’or de l’automobile française. Les voitures seront exposées sur le stand Rétromobile (Hall 1, Stand k064), tandis que la vente aura lieu le samedi 3 février à la salle des ventes Osenat (66 Avenue de Breteuil, Paris) à partir de 18h. Pami les autos exposées à Rétromobile, une biplace course vue au Grand Prix de Monaco dans les années 1930, l’une des plus belles représentantes de la marque Facel Véga, ou encore l’une des GT les plus rares et exclusives des années 1950 présentée à Pebble Beach en 1994.

Auction sales

Like every year, Retromobile will be the occasion for major auctions. However, each house will have its own strategy. Artcurial is organising its sale at the show, and will be exhibiting, as it does every year, the cars offered under the hammer. 2 sales in fact, the first on Friday 2 February dedicated to cars that have marked the history of the 20th century, the second on Saturday 3 presenting a number of vintage objects related to the world of the automobile. Among the jewels presented during these exceptional sales, some already known models: Delaunay Belleville Type HB6 from 1913, BMW M1 from 1979, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing from 1955 or the sublime Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 TT12 from 1975 driven by Derek Bell and Jochen Mass… For its part, Osenat will offer a collection of 9 prestigious French cars – five Delahaye, three Talbot-Lago and one Delage – a real journey into the golden age of the French automobile.
